Smarter cards?
"I'm tired of all the cards in my wallet and always hunting for the right one - or going out and discovering I left the one I need at home. "
A universal ID card seems to be a popular approach, however, the true simplicity would have to be within the systems supporting it and the services wrapped around it. Many countries have some form of ID card that is used for multiple purposes but most consumers feel that special interest groups might make this dream a difficult one to achieve as a widespread solution. Security and privacy issues associated with carrying such a card are also a major concern.

digiammarco thinks: Wouldn't it be great? One single card to pay, collect, access, be identified, be screened, travel... Europeans and their 'Smart cards" got closer than Americans, but this is still far from true. Too many interests involved, I guess, and the recurrent quest for control may end up killing this dream...
dreve thinks: such card already 'nearly' exist in Hong Kong, where you have an electronic ID, also acting as an online ID for online auction etc. It also becomes a e-wallet, storing money they you can use on public transport, newsagent as well

It is there.. it is a matter of people feeling safe carrying one card only
