Is technology only for the young?
"It's a fast moving world. For the young and quick-witted it's easy to keep pace, but are we abandoning generations of people who grew up with paper and pen, landlines, and black and white TV? Could more be done to encourage the elderly to embrace technology?"

For the first time in history, older generations are now relying on the younger to hand down knowledge. This strange reversal has resulted in world where many times children have a better understanding of technology than most adults. Part of this might be due to the younger generations being surrounded by technology, but it is also important for older generations to adopt new forms of technology. It is up to the older generation to embrace technology and realize that the way we live is changing at a rapid pace. Designing products to be more usable and less complex for older generations may serve to help us all better take advantage of the technology that is available to us.

Simpler thinks: The fact that many old people can't use technology is not the fault of the old. I think many products are poorly designed and not easy enough to use. We introduce too many features in new products and the core functions get lost in the complexity that is generated.

Designing websites and products with older generations in mind will actually make it easier to use for everyone. How can it be that the typical TV from the 80s is easier to use than the TV of today? No wonder the older generations are being left behind in this crazy evolution.

SacredVermin thinks: I don't understand the problem. In view B, there is help and advice out there, and A is correct, because people who have a desire to enrich their lives with tech will seek it out. It's entirely up to them. It's not like young people aren't as dumb anyway. A friend of mine wanted to install iTunes and didn't know you have to run the progrm after you downlad it. There are just some types, it's not even necessarily about age.
