Minimizing Obsolescence with Technology
"With technology advancing at a pace like never before, it seems that as soon as you buy a new gadget, it becomes obsolete. We all have old computers sitting around the house or old technology that is now simply outdated. What kinds of things could we do to make technology today less obsolete?"
We've all faced the need to upgrade technology, whether it be a computer or television, in order to get the latest features. At the rate that technology progresses, this looks as if it will always be an issue unless more comprehensive standardisation is put into place. The expectation is not to have a product that lasts forever, but rather a product that will last for a reasonable amount of time and is able to share it's components, namely cables and accessories, with other products.

SacredVermin thinks: Why not both? What do you do with the old pieces after you've installed the new one? There's lots of stuff that can't be componentised, and should be recyclable, and there's stuff that could benefit from modularity, componentisation, and a small degree of standardisation, but not enough to hamper competition.
oluchi thinks: TECHNOLOGISTS SHOULD BE FUTURISTIC MINDED WHEN DESIGNING PRODUCTS. A PRODUCT PRODUCED TODAY SHOULD BE DEVELOPED WITH THE CAPABILTY TO BE TECHNOLOGICALLY VIBRANT IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS.
