RSS, not so simple syndication?
"Real Simple Syndication (RSS) is supposed to be simple. It's aimed at easing digital information overload by personalizing content without having to subscribe to newsletters. Well, it took me a LONG time to figure it out. "
Real Simple Syndication (RSS) is supposed to be simple. It's aimed at easing digital information overload by personalizing content without having to subscribe to newsletters. For some it proves to be quite intimidating. As with any new technology as the public becomes more familiar with it and easy to use tools are developed to use the technology, more and more people will see the value. The idea behind RSS is quite revolutionary, however the implementation is not quite at the level it could be in order to be widely accepted. RSS has a long way to go before it truly serves people.

innov8 thinks: I agree, RSS is not simple and I'd much prefer to see a full web page with images. I know it's used in mobile devices and with feed readers, but I'm not sure how this applies to me. How is this easier than viewing a web page. I assume that it's the idea of syndication that is the draw. I can subscribe to different feeds and read through them quickly, but I still find it 'not so simple'. I do, however, think this is the next evolution of email marketing. I can see companies using RSS feeds to target market individuals based on their preferences.
Geek1 thinks: The idea of RSS is great. My take on it is that we are in the early stages of seeing how this technology will be used. It may turn into a sort of on-demand service or it may become a new form of information exchange where you pick and choose the information you want, in a sense, creating your own information portal. RSS may be trendy and difficult to understand now, but I think it's the beginning of something that will revolutionize the way we receive information.
