"We talk ad nauseam these days about how busy we are and how stressful life is. Is life really more stressful than it was 100 years ago, or are we just a generation of complainers? " Is life really more stressful than it was 100 years ago, or are we just a generation of complainers? That's a very complex question. We live in a completely different society as 100 years ago. While they may have worked simply to survive, our goal seems to be to thrive in a competitive environment. We live in a much more complex world today surrounded by technology and everyday conveniences. Although we may seem to complain more, it may just be the simple fact that we have a more connected society thanks to tools such as television and the internet. 6 comment(s) so far SwissTony thinks: The pressures in todays society is much greater than 100 years ago, it is a rat race that intensifies with every decade, with competition for absolutely everything. Values and foundations that our past generations could fall back on have disapeared, leaving a society obsessed with getting ahead. (90% of 10 votes AGREE) simpleenough thinks: As a fellow Gen-Xer myself, I feel that we aren't as tough as our forefathers were, but we also don't live in the same world where they lived. We live in a much more complex world. We have certain expectations of our live that I believe they did not. They worked hard to survive, we work to succeed and gain security. Thanks to modern conveniences, we have some everyday things much easier than they did. I definitely believe that we are much more materialistic than our parents were, however it is very difficult to compare since times have changes so much even in the past 15 years.
