What do we do about non-essential liquids in carryon bags?
"With the recent change in airline carry-on rules, many travelers have to wait an hour for checked bags just to bring liquid toiletry items on their trip."
Safety is the number one priority when flying. As the threat of terrorism requires the public to take more and more precautions before boarding an aircraft, new regulations have brought on a great deal of inconvenience for everyday travellers. As a result, airlines and hotels should attempt to make up for these inconveniences by providing or giving the option of purchasing toiletries and essentials liquids to it's passengers and guests.

JBonnin thinks: Security must be the first priority. In case of restrictions imposed upon passengers, airlines should try to compensate the inconvenience by providing a nice kit of toiletry items.
IgnitionSwitch thinks: Its a chain reaction that also affects all of the merchants in the airports.

I've recently lost a number of coffees (from Starbucks), waters, and most recently, a $100 bottle of perfume (gift bought at Duty Free shop in foreign airport.)

I can't imagine how many thousands, maybe millions of dollars of product purchased in airlines is going into garbage bins. Let alone, unfulfilled and horribly sad travellers.

My question - where do all these items go when confiscated? to an inferno, or are the "new" items donated someplace, or pilferred?
