Do we expect too much from technology?
"With the preliferation of technology, it now seems that we look to technological advances to better our lives and our health. Is this a false notion? Is technology really the answer to all of our health problems?"

Several current medical procedures may be seen as going too far. For example fat burning pills or gastric bypass surgery to lose weight. Many have found these form of weight lose to be only temporary and not life changing as the user often gains the weight back without truly changing their lifestyle. Technology is here to help us. It can provide a pill to help us control our cholesterol. It can encourage behavior that can help in the process of becoming a healthier human being. Technology should not be a quick fix to health issues. It can, however, be the catalyst that allows us to permanently change our lives for the better.

Maverick thinks: I think it's important to use technology wisely. Technology should not be a quick fix. It should not be used to create unrealistic expectations. Too many people rely on medical technology to fix things that they are unwilling to change on their own. Maybe all we need is technology that could somehow provide us motivation to better ourselves or allow us to easily track our health in a way that is natural and uncomplicated.
jk thinks: Technology advances allows us to threaten and indeed reverse the role of the tooth fairy. You now give money and you can wish for new teeth (okay, via the dentist..), but shiny new teeth you can get. One day, will we really threaten or reverse the role of mother nature? Yes! Pay money and get what you want. By that time, our celebrities will be those people who have looked after themselves and who have their original parts in working order. They will be unlike most of the population who will have been ignoring their health responsibilities. So, I see most of the population using technology to achieve the standards set by their culture or, perhaps even worse, the standards being promoted by the companies developing the technology.
