Remote Healthcare
"So many people are in need of healthcare, from older indivuals confined to their homes to children in third world countries in need of medical attention. Wouldn't it be more simple to create ways to diagnose conditions remotely rather than have teams of doctors travel to provide on site care?"
Remote healthcare is a very divided concept. On one hand, a doctor needs to have direct contact with a patient in most cases in order to properly diagnose, on the oter hand, an doctor could provide a vast amount of help in areas where it is needed most via remote care. The true resolution of this would have to be a mixture of both. Patients may not be able to accurately diagnose symptons and complications with using computer or gaining outside acces to internet or phone lines becomes increasingly difficult in remote locations. Remote healthcare could serve as a suppliment to more minor health concerns while a doctor's first hand attention might be more appropriate for serious health concerns.

Simpler thinks: If used with care and as a supplement I think this is a great concept. Seems so obvious. It can only be because of certain interest groups dragging their feet that this is not more widespread. We have to find ways to deal with the future health challenge when the baby boomers retire. This is such a way, I think...

I wonder why exactly isnt it more widespread already? The technology and applications are there, as far as I know...

JBonnin thinks: Such a system is not achievable to the third world right now. If basic health is not ensured to a large part of the population, you can figure out about access to computers.

To those who do have access to the internet, there are already loads of sites providing health information.

Another issue to be considered is that one same symptom can be caused by several different diseases.
