moderator questions:
Becoming your own personal trainer
It seems that many individuals, given the opportunity, would live a healthy lifestyle consisting of both exercise and a balanced diet. The question is, why aren't most people doing so?
View A
Educating oneself on healthy habits is time consuming enough. With today's overworked lifestyles, often times healthy habits become the last priority.
View B
It's simply a matter of knowing ones body and giving the body what it needs. Keeping track of your progress gives you a clear understanding of how diet and exercise effect your body.

JBonnin thinks: We seem to have lost the understanding that the base to all accomplishments is conquered daily, by keeping a healthy and balanced life.

Therefore, instead of following the sensible way, which is to keep healthy, we make our own diseases and then hire personal trainers and doctors to help us.

One failure of modern education is actually not to consider the individual as a whole. That's why so many western people end by turning to oriental practices and philosophies.

Andrewww thinks: You make an interesting point JBonnin. There is a lot of (inner)wisdom to be found in oriental philosophies. The western culture also brings a lot of benefits to the table. I would like to ask my fellow bloggers the following:

If we can 'pick and mix' what would be the ideal mix of western and eastern 'best practices' to embrace?

</p>

For example:

Pro's West: Assertiveness

Pro's East: Balance of body and mind

23guv thinks: The pace of life has become so fast, that we tend to ignore the basis of life. We have devleoped a habit of "live to work" rather that "work to live". We are spending long time in office and are mostly eating unhealthy fast food.
johnbates thinks: The number one reason provided by our clients for not exercising, eating better, etc. is time. With the average American working 47 hours per week it's no wonder that 78-80% of the US population does not get enough exercise to receive any health benefits. The idea of becoming ones own personal trainer sounds great, but isn't pratical. Besides taking time, most individuals simply won't push themselves the way a personal trainer would.

More and more employers are realizing the benefits of health promotion and wellness programs. Through incentives, flex-time, education, etc. there is hope that we can improve the health and wellbeing of our nation and the world.

If you'd like to read more about wellness programs, etc. you can find many articles on my website - Wellness Proposals ( http://www.WellnessProposals.com/ ). Note that I'm not trying to solicit business in any way, shape or form....just offering the information that's there as a resource.
