knn60 questions:
CFL lamp repair/ re-circulate
Recently I just opened one lamp and found that the CFL lamp dies due to the Electronic circuit failure, thought the lamp would have about 7000 hr of life. I feel we must have regular repair/recycle centres for CFL and Electronic Tube light Ballast.
View A
More people would start using the CFL lamp, which would reduce the energy consumption
View B
CFL manufactures would lose revenue

jonathanmarks thinks: The recycling aspect is very important because I believe that these bulbs still contain small quantities of mercury, essential for the lamps operation. Yes, it is great that energy consumption (and wasted heat) is being saved. I am concerned that in many African countries there is not a good recycling programme in place to ensure even tiny amounts of mercury don't get into land fill.
