It's much easier to keep up with my spending by using a credit card and I don't have to stop by the bank every week to get more cash. You could just as easily pay with a card or any other representation of payment. Yes, cash is the most universally accepted form of payment, but times change. We are no longer trading beans for wool. We live in a new global economy where cash has become somewhat irrelevant, even a burden. Think the worries about identity theft and fraud are limited - in most cases this would be covered by the merchant or the bank, which have insurances to protect consumers. One more benefit with having no cash is that it makes money laundering and illegal activities much more difficult. Not to mention moon lighting. Every bank seems to need to develop it's own payment system and so do most countries and even companies like Google seem to find a need to have their own payment method. Although cash seems to be used less and less, it is still an essential form of currency exchange. Cash has been used for centuries and it is only until recent decades that newer forms of payment have been established. Credit and debit card provide a convenient way to pay for goods although it entails a certain level of security risk. Yes, cards are open to fraud, but the risks are limited as credit card companies and bank take more responsibility for illegal activity. Cash, however, has its own problems. It allows the opportunity for criminals to launder money. Increased use of card payments could limit this criminal activity. Cash is also difficult to carry with you and requires weekly visits to the bank teller to replenish. Credit cards on the other hand eliminate this inconvenience. Each form of payment has its issues and benefits, but the majority of people agree that when it comes to making small payments, cash is king. Credit cards, while convenient, can not be justified in both cost and time for these smaller payments. Cash as we know it will remain until a more viable, secure solution comes along to take its place.
