JBonnin questions:
Sustainable energy
Exhaustion of fossil fuels, used in planes, cars, machines and industry is imminent.

View A
Biofuels are the alternative solution: not only they employ renewable energy sources as they are less pollutent, as they are "CO2 neutral".
View B
We must search other forms of renewable energy sources.

Biofuels demand a high volume of hydric resources, which are also getting exhausted.

Maven thinks: I feel that in the end, we as a global society will have to minimize our reliance on fossile fuels. Wind and solar power, even hydrogen power, seem to be the way to go. How about an electric car where the exterior paint acts as solar cells to collect energy from the sun?
idesign thinks: Biofuels are not the answer. It has been proven that Ethanol cost more energy to produce than it actually outputs. For now, it is being used as an alternative, but this only helps a small part of the problem and in most cases is still mixed with regular gasoline. This does not prove to be a simple solution as there are millions of automobiles, planes, and machine currently relying on fossil fuel sources. What happens to those?
SacredVermin thinks: I'm still waiting for a theoretical "Galt's motor" to crop up from the fruits of physics. If pseudosciences would be given the indifferent scrutiny of any other subject instead of the classic upturned nose, something might just. Brown's gas, Tesla's late research, magnetics... yeah - burning stuff for power will (hopefully) be a thing of the past.
roy thinks: Of course a new source of has to be has to be found and I'm sure sure it will be found as we get closer to fossil fuel exhaustion, we'll get really desperate, and then necessity be the mother of invention, money will be invested. Atomics, magnetism, gravity and antigravity, its out there waiting, theres much more to come from solar power. While we wait for the great day to arrive,it would be a good idea to limit the population of this world, otherwise necessity will invent some horrible solutions.
coltys thinks: There are already plenty of other alternatives to using hydro carbons as a fule, there is the possability of wind farms that are based off shore, solar energy,

things will not change untill either the resorces are used or the governments of the world stop listening to the big petro chemical companies.

Aos thinks: Consumers need to demand alternate forms of energy. It has only come recently that consumers, particularly in America, demand hybrid and more energy efficient automobiles. We need to make a conscious effort to move in a direction that is beneficial to us all and is environementally sustainable all at the same time.
NachoLibre thinks: True, biofuels such as ethanol actually cost more to produce than normal gasoline, but the idea is to rely less on nonrenewable resources and switch to new mays of creating energy. As stated before, wind and solar power will always be available. It's just a matter of making commercially available and economical to everyone.
sparkybena thinks: We do need to be using other energy sources (preferably renewable ones), but that is never going to be enough for our energy-greedy ways of life. Surely we need to be looking also (and perhaps even first...) at reducing our power consumption. For example- why are old lightbulbs still for sale when the energy saving ones reduce the power used even if it is only by a small amount overall?
nicolaallsopp thinks: It is time we started finding other alternatives and switching to these alternatives.

When will they hurry up and start the change process - when the fuel is at its lowest. What then do certain people get priority of who gets the alternative power first while the rest are running out.

This change is not going to happen as quick as it should unless a majority of the public start demanding it. And you get rid of the mony hungry people that just want to make billions from the industry rather provide a service.

The government should go back to running the fuel business so independant companies dont take advantage of it.

Only the general public can speed this process up and makes these changes happen. Its in the publics interest for these changes to happen and as quiclky as possible - to prevent the way of life.
