Gone are the days when terrorism was a rare occurance. We are now faced with how to minimize the threat. What kinds of technology can we use to capture and deter terrorist , yet not create a world of security issues for the rest of us?
I'm willing to put up with heavy security and inconveniences in my daily life if it means that we will be safer from terrorist threats.

Technology should be implemented to identify securty risks before they occur without creating time delays and inconveniences for the masses.

itssimplethinks: I agree that technology should be the solution. If Las Vegas casinos can have face recognition software to capture card counters, surely we can come up with technology to capture known terrorists.
Symphthinks: I don't believe that any kind of technology could help to totally eradicate terrorism. The best way to combat this threat is for the public to be vigilant and act as the eyes and ears to spot suspicious behaviour. Terrorists can adapt their behaviour to avoid detection by technical means or recruit new people who aren't well known to the authorities and wouldn't be picked up on iris or face recognition systems. If it means I have to add a few extra hours to a journey to allow for security checks it's a price I am willing to pay.
ryanthinks: neither terrorism is a fact of modern life. Throughout human history there has always been the percieved threat of the other. That threat time and time again has been dealt with violence. with six billion people on the planet now the number of people who die as a result of terrorism is negligable. It is the cost of our society. If anti-terror methods become pervasive to the point that everyone is monitered to see if they are a terrorist then we no longer live in America. Yes there should be greater security in places where there is greater risk. Anti-terror technology should not be everywhere.
JBonninthinks: Terrorism promoters use very anonymous people to accomplish their ends. These anonymous are completely disposable. Hence, no recognition system could help on its own.
Of course, technology is used to intercept cryptographed messages, allowing Intelligence services to reduce the damage of such actions.
The problem is that terrorists employ rudimentary methods. Technology is not very useful here.
GenCthinks: I think the whole threat of technology is overblown. I agree that there is more of a threat out there than in the past, but technology should be able to detect substances that may be explosive. It should be able to detect anything that may pose a danger to an aircraft. Perhaps the jurisdiction of airport security should fall under the goverment rather than relying on airports and passengers to manage the burden and cost associated with air travel today.
justemmathinks: Technology isn't the answer to dealing with terrorist threats; changing disasterous foreign policies so that we're not alienating people and driving them into the arms of fundamentalists is the answer.
englishdannythinks: Global terrorism, if you want to call it that, is an inevitable consequence of developments in technology. When its possible to buy a mobile phone at a supermarket, "Pay-as-you-go" with no I.D. attached, when you can buy a Sat/nav system with detailed maps of 30 countries and if you couple this with internet & messaging via a laptop then a small group of people could organise themselves in a previously unseen, highly efficient way. Mankind has never been very good at "Stopping what it started". Newer and better technology means greater organisational skills for everyone. Whilst this would appear to be cause for celebration, "Everyone" includes your enemies.
