i agree with the last few comments mostly - simplicity is being able to do things easily without effort....
manuals should never be necessary and things should fit together and just work... of course competition is the problem most of the time...
Ipod - why bother with any other mp3 player?
bluray vs hdd - sigh!
SD vs memory stick vs USB stick vs Compact Flash
dvd +r vs -r vs -rw vs +rw
etc etc
oh and dont even get me started on power cables......

Open source product design
BigJohn0309thinks: I agree, its a great idea, but the only problem is often people are selfish... I say that because I am, ive had loads of great ideas, still do have, but i dont want to put them out there because i dont want someone else making a mint out of my idea, having said that im constantly seeing other people think of the samethings of course, and because they have the skills or guts to actually do it, they do make a mint, and yet here i am thinking of things to make everything better, but practically bankrupt on a daily basis!!! GRRR - someone employ me to think of great ideas... and implement them.... I thought this was what this site would be all about tbh!!

Why do I have so many remote controls?
BigJohn0309thinks: OMG this is a PHILIPS website and the PHILIPS PRONTO does everything that everyone here wants, admittedly its not a SMALL remote, and it is a BIT fiddly to program, but its touch screen, it will control hundreds of devices and buttons, ad can be set to only show a minimal amount of buttons depending on what you are trying to control. You can even have "advanced" and hidden buttons to allow it to be different for you than for say your mum, who has no need to "program" your HDD recorder, but might want to "record current channel" at a touch of a button...
