Transgenics
ssp thinks: What on earth are Transgenics?

Why do I have so many remote controls?
ssp thinks: I think there should be one remote control with a touch screen instead of buttons. you should be able to "download" the remote control for whatever piece of kit that you buy. All the remote controls should be stored on a central server so that if your universal one breaks, you can buy a new one, sync it to your online account and your remote controls can all be downloaded again. This way, you get to keep all of the functions of each dedicated remote, yet have one control in the living room.

Watering plants.
ssp thinks: I can't stand house plants even though I love nature/plants. Plants should be where they belong: outside.

Do self service options help you?
ssp thinks: I hate automated call menus and call centres where the people on $5 per hour on the other end have no interest in anything apart from going home. If I sat in a grey cube all day I would do the same too. However, this is absolutely not the way to deal with customers.

I personally do not buy any large ticket item until I phone the customer support number for that product. I look for two things:

1) How long does it take before I talk to a human being? If it's a long time they will never get a purchase from me.

2) Is the customer support number toll-free? If a company wants me to stay on hold then they better be willing to pay for my time. That's when you know whether the price being charged for the product is worth it.

Do books really need technology?
ssp thinks: I only buy books or novels in paper form because:

1) I don't have to worry about the battery running out

2) I don't have yet another proprietary charger/adapter to carry

3) If I lost my book I lose only $10 or so compared to a $300 piece of kit.

However, when I was at university I used to spend hundreds of dollars per year on books which were only used a few times. This is a waste of money and paper resources. The university library only had a certain number of text books and I could never get hold of the books I wanted during assignment time at the end of term. e-books would be the absolutely perfect choice here and I would happily pay for an e-reader for academic purposes.
