Are traffic lights dangerous?
tolislagersthinks: Perhaps the problem of congestion could be solved by a more complex gps system. If it would be possible to use the technologies commonly used in internetrouting with GPS, one could manage the flow of traffic more efficiently. I'm thinking a a central server that every gps has to check for congestion before it establishes the definite route. Some kind of cost metric that would be more efficient than just shourtest route etc. This kind of management system would reduce congestion and thereby make the roads a little bit safer. The usage of it would be subject to a network effect. The more users use it, the more valuable it gets. If a certain amount gets sold, the product will sell itself. It should also be accessible through a standard interface for al gps users. Perhaps my idea is't realistic enough, but I often wonder why we don't use more intelligent devices for traffic management. Traffic lights have been there for ages ... Users can't be expected to drive safely without a system. I'm wondering if the effect of shutting down traffic lights (like in the Netherlands) has a persistent effect if users would get familiar with it.

How can we avoid remembering passwords?
tolislagersthinks: In my opinion biometric identification adds unnecessay complexity to the user experience. There must be a more simpler way to deal with this problem. At the moment I'm storing passwords on my cellphone. That may not be the safest thing to do, but what is the chance my cellphone gets stolen combined with the fact that the person knows where the passwords are for. Perhaps it would be easier to add a very simple password "vault" on devices we carry along. Just thinking...
